Oil bill rises 1.4%
  05/04/2010

Morocco's oil bill in the first two months of the year reached about MAD 2,846 million, recoding a rise of 1.4% compared to the same period last year, said the country's exchange office.

The bill rose despite a fall in terms of the quantity imported. Morocco thus imported 639,500 tonnes of crude oil in the year to February, against 1 million tonnes a year earlier.

This situation is a result of a steep rise in oil prices, as the average price of an imported tonne of crude oil increased 61.9%, reaching MAD 4,451 in February 2010 compared to MAD 2,749 in the same period last year.

Consequently, overall energy imports jumped 17.8% to stand at about MAD 9.1 billion.
