Morocco led the list in terms of fund transfers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in 2007, with USD 6.7 billion, a World Bank report revealed on Tuesday.

The report of the Bank's regional office in Cairo said that the sum -USD 6.7 billion- represents 25% of the financial transfers towards the MENA region.

The report also revealed a decrease in the level of remittances towards the MENA region in 2007, which stood at USD 28.5 billion.

It highlights the high growth rates that developing countries know, despite the slight slowdown in their economies because of the world's financial crisis.

The report puts the emphasis on the necessity to provide aid to poorer countries that still depend on international assistance, which fell to 103.7 billion dollars in 2007, against 107.1 billion in 2005.
